St. Benedict Mirrored Crucifix

The Back of the Crucifix

On the reverse side of this crucifix you will find the front of the Saint Benedict Medal.

This side bears a detailed image of Saint Benedict holding a cross in his right hand and the Holy Rule in his left. To one side of the saint is a cup (symbolizing the poisoned wine that broke when he blessed it), and on the other side a raven (which carried away the poisoned bread). Above the images are the words:

“Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti” — “The Cross of our Holy Father Benedict.”

Around the margin runs the beautiful prayer:

“Ejus in obitu nostro praesentia muniamus”

— “May we be fortified by his presence at our death.”

This powerful side of the medal, displayed on the back of the crucifix, offers continuous spiritual protection and reminds us of Saint Benedict’s intercession.
